Camera Ready Holiday Makeup Tips

It's that time of year! Twinkle lights, beautifully wrapped gifts, fabulous smells wafting in from the kitchen, family gatherings, laughter and pictures, lots and lots of pictures. All of your closest friends and family clamber to snag every possible photo opp during holiday gatherings in hopes of capturing those magical moments and memories to keep forever. Show your best self through the lens with these fabulous holiday photography tips!

1. Use matte colors - Shine is the enemy of photography. Dewy skin is attractive in real life, but in photos it will look like an oil slick. Matte makeup won't reflect light, making it easy to apply and easy to photograph.

2. Use powder - Even if your makeup is applied perfectly, if you look shiny in your pictures it can ruin your whole look. Along the lines of Tip #1, using a finishing powder will make your face more matte.

3. Fill in your brows - Even if you don't fill in your brows on a daily basis, fill them in for your pictures. Your eyes and face will look so much more complete if your brows are looking polished. This especially goes for blondes. Blonde eyebrows will disappear in photographs.

4. Boldly go where you don't usually - Makeup photographs two shades lighter in pictures. Do your blush, eyes and lip color a little more vibrant than you normally would.

5. Lashes, lashes & more lashes! - A lot of professional photographers recommend wearing false lashes. I personally can NOT stand fake lashes. (It may or may not have to do with a fear of gluing my eyes shut.) I use and love 3D Fiber Lashes. It's a 2 bottle mascara system that uses natural fibers taken from the campanulaceae of green tea and it's beyond AMAZING.

6. Apply your makeup in natural light - When you put on your makeup, sit by a window or in a room with a lot of natural light. This will give you the best idea of what your makeup really looks like, and how it will look in the pictures.

7. Wax - makeup does not adhere well to peach fuzz. Whatever you normally wax on your face, wax it before your pictures. I suggest waxing at least 48 hours before your pictures to give enough time for any redness and swelling to go down.

The most important tip is to HAVE FUN! Happiness shines out of your eyes and will always improve your pictures a million times over! Happy Holidays!

6 Reasons Why You Should Use Makeup Primer

Like an artist primes their canvas before painting it, you should be priming YOUR canvas - your beautiful face. Primer, a gel applied before your makeup, creates a flawless face while providing many other benefits:

1. Creates a smooth surface: It smooths fine lines and wrinkles by filling them in, it also helps fill in facial scarring.

2. Evens out skin tone: Reduces inflammation and redness

3. Hydrates and nourishes skin: Trehalose (found in some primers) is a plant sugar with water-binding properties for skin, as well as humectant (moisture preserving) and moisturizing benefits.

4. Tightens pores: This, along with being a barrier between your skin & makeup, helps keep your pores clean and free of makeup. It also helps prevent your pores from secreting oil, reducing shine.

5. Makeup lasts longer: This is especially important during harsh winters and humid summers. No matter what time of year, your need to touch up will greatly be reduced!

6. Makes your makeup POP: This picture shows the difference of hues without and with primer -

Younique's Primer is gluten-free, 100% natural, free of parabens, oils, synthetic fragrances, and cheap fillers.

Why Go With Organic Makeup?

We all know about this fairly new concept of organic food, organic makeup and even organic clothes. But not all of us are sure what it means and if the products really are good and helpful, so to those of you who still are confused, this article should help you clarify things!

We have to admit that sometimes we hesitate to put on a complete makeup because we’ve heard it’s bad for the skin and it ruins our complexion.  But we shouldn’t exaggerate – even if the origins of makeup weren’t so skin-friendly, the cosmetics industry has progressed enormously.

So, what are organic cosmetics?
Recently, in our new generation of cosmetics we can find products that are 100% harmless to the skin- organic cosmetics.

The first distinction you need to make: Organic does not mean natural, but more than that! Whether it's daily creams or eye-shadow, products are manufactured with 95%-100% natural ingredients.

The novelty is that the plants from which the ingredients are extracted are grown without chemical fertilizers and the manufacturing process does not involve radiation or genetic modifications.
So that means: no synthetic fragrances, no artificial colors, no harmful fillers. Yay!
For example, Younique products offer natural alternatives to makeup. In their formula, you will only find plant and mineral ingredients, natural botanical extracts and antioxidants for a pure, gentle and beautiful makeup.

Organic Must-Haves:

  •   RefreshedPure & Natural Rose Water - Use as a quick splash of revitalizing moisture for a botanical boost or mix with Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Powders for a smooth and creamy application.

  •         BB Flawless Complexion Enhancer- Lightweight, creamy, and a perfect base for their powder concealers. It covers imperfections, but also soothes and moisturizes your skin at the same time.

·
  •        MoodstruckMinerals Blushser – Apply blush on the cheeks, slightly smiling, to obtain a revitalised, gorgeous look! Blush helps to give a touch of color exactly where needed.

·
  •             LucrativeLip Gloss – It’s a known fact that us women " eat " about five lipsticks during our lifetime. This is not a problem with lipstick that contains vitamins rather than chemicals. Choose the Lucrative lip-gloss for a rich spread of color, very smooth and highly pigmented, for a bright, bold, or subtle shines to your lips!

Ok, now I know what they are, but why should I use them?

Given that our body absorbs about 60% of the contents of creams, oils or lotions applied to the skin, it’s highly indicated that they are as gentle as they can be. Otherwise, we can develop different rashes, irritations, or most importantly - hormonal and metabolic imbalances.
The solution to staying healthy and beautiful is to use non-toxic products, such as the high-quality makeup from Younique.

Facial Cleansers For Beautiful Glowing Skin

It may take a lot of time as well as trial and error to get to the products that can do wonders for your face. To help you cut down on the trial and error, we have compiled this short list of must have face products that will help you get beautiful glowing skin.

This facial cleanser is proven to reduce discoloration, enhance and brighten your complexion, and make your skin soft and supple at the same time. It also gets rid of dead skin and blemishes with the help of ingredients like superleaf extracts, Ginkgo biloba, and horse chestnut. Its formula is just the right balance of mild and powerful, which makes it suitable for normal to dry skin.

All you need to do is first make sure your face is clean, and then wet your face and hands. Squeeze out a small quantity of facial cleanser onto your hands and work it into a lather. Massage it onto your skin using gentle upward strokes. Finally, rinse off with lukewarm water and then pat your skin dry with a soft clean towel.  You will be able to tell the difference immediately afterwards.

Illuminate Clear is Illuminate Clean’s partner in facial cleansing, with the only difference being that its formula has been made to suit oily skin instead. It will also help minimize blackheads and unclog pores. It is convenient and easy to use, and it will take you not more than 15 minutes to remove dirt and excess oil, and attain glowing beautiful skin. Ingredients like Garden Chrysanthemum, Aloe Vera, and Licorice Root help to hydrate your skin and maintain firmness.

This facial will help revitalize your face better than any treatment in a spa. Use it once daily for a soothing and relaxing experience.

How to Keep Nail Polish Chip Free

Visualize this: You've just spent over an hour immaculately applying your favorite color or brand of nail polish on your toenails, and they look divine. You can hardly keep from jumping for joy. You go out with a bunch of friends, and they all compliment you. An hour later, while waiting in a queue or picking up something from the floor, you look at your feet, and you see that your nail lacquer has chipped in several places. You can almost feel that tide of frustration building up inside you.

All of us have gone through this at one time or another. This is why you now need to make sure that it never happens again. And thankfully, there are multiple ways to accomplish it.

The first thing that you need to make sure is that your nails are squeaky clean before applying polish to them. Most of us forget this really important step. The dirt/oil on our nails gets in the way of the lacquer sticking onto the nails, and ultimately leads to the polish peeling away. Soaking your fingers in lukewarm water for about 10 minutes often forms an important part of a manicure, because it helps soften the epidermal layer and facilitates the cutting of any cuticles around the nails. If you want to pamper your hands, then add a few teaspoons of this Refreshed Pure & Natural Rose Water to moisturize and hydrate them.

Secondly, remember to file and buff your nails. You can use a nail buffer or an emery board for this. Don't file them back and forth, but only do so in one direction. Any ragged edges will just increase the chances of your nail polish chipping off.

It’s always better to apply one thin coat, wait for it to dry completely, and then apply another thin coat on top of it instead of just slopping on one thick coat. Layers help because they stick to each other, and provide even more strength. You can further protect your nail polish from external environmental damage such as heat by applying a top clear coat to seal the polish.

Lastly, avoid biting your nails. No matter how tough your nail polish is, nothing can beat the sharp points of your teeth, and biting your nails is just like cursing your own soul.
